…until you’ve had one too many
But how do you say “no” to the hot, muscle-bound blond with the mysterious accent who is obviously so proud of his work (and for good reason) when he comes over from behind the bar and asks, “Would you like to see the menu?” Of course after my third margarita I was already beyond my limit, but how could I resist? You see, the French are pros when it comes to wine, but they are seriously lacking the culture necessary to make a decent cocktail. And at Kabanito, that’s exactly what you get, the best bloody cocktails in Paris. I guess it takes finding a hunk of a barman like Manu (Cuban-Russian?) to make it happen. He personally tastes each of his conconctions before serving them up, and then he serves them up with style: decorative marshmallows and flowers or little airplanes made out of a banana. The drinks are reasonably priced too, another original for Paris, at €5 during Happy Hour. It’s a tiny little place, but doesn’t get smoked out til late (I think I may have to burn my clothes), and somehow they manage to squeeze in a DJ from time to time. And if you’re lucky, you may run into Olivier, magnetizer and Tarot reader extraordinaire.
So the next time you’re in the mood for something a little different, without necessarily going over your limit, check out the Kabanito, 5 rue Blainville, 75005 Paris. Cheers!
