No blogging this past week because I was too busy eating, watching movies, playing video games and generally lounging around in my pajamas. It was brilliant. Olivier and I spent the holiday at his mom’s in Gray, a small and charming town in the region of Franche-Compté, about 45 minutes outside of Dijon. I’m sure I put on 2 or 3 pounds, but since I’d recently lost 5 I still come out ahead. I only mention it because it seems like one of those things that everyone talks about at this time of year: eating too much and putting on weight. You know, like when you go to someone’s house and you can always count on them saying, “Oh, please excuse the mess.” It’s just one of those automatisms.
The truth is I really don’t care. I’ve always said, “Pounds are like men, they come and they go.” Although, since this one seems to be sticking around, I probably shouldn’t say that anymore. I hear you asking, “Is she going anywhere with this?” Mais oui…
Resolution #1: spend less time worrying about things that don’t really matter.
I think it’s been a rough year for a lot of us (even a rough couple of years), and I’ve learned that energy actually is expendable. So my first resolution going into 2007 will be not to worry about opening that second box of chocolate, and certainly not excusing my messy house the next time someone comes over. Instead, I’ll save my worrying for the serious stuff. Besides, I’m sure their house is messier than ours anyway.
Langoustine, gambas, escargot, charcuterie, glâce, chocolats, tarte aux pommes, tarte potiron, légumes, agneau, saumon fumé, clémentines, croissants, chocolats, faux filet, fois gras, … burrrp.
